Every year in June, horse racing enthusiasts gather in Elmont, New York at Belmont Park for the oldest of the Triple Crown races, the Belmont Stakes. It was at this storied location that American Pharoah became the first horse in almost 40 years to win the Triple Crown in 2015. It was also here at Belmont, that Secretariat set the world record with a 31-length victory in 1973, capturing the Triple Crown title. This year’s race will be held on June 9th.
A nonprofit organization called Pal-O-Mine Equestrian began in 1995 with a simple mission: “to provide a comprehensive therapeutic equine program using horses to facilitate growth, learning and healing.” Pal-O-Mine offers therapeutic horseback riding programs for vulnerable populations including adults and children with disabilities, people who have been abused or neglected, the military, and those living in poverty.
Programs offered by the organization include Adaptive Riding & Unmounted Horsemanship, Equine Assisted Learning, Equine Assisted Psychotherapy, Hippotherapy, Military Programs, and Corporate Workshops. Clients and families report positive life-changing experiences through the efforts of Pal-O-Mine on their testimonials page.
On June 8th this year, Pal-O-Mine holds their annual Day at the Races Fundraiser event at Belmont Park, a day ahead of the famous stakes race. The event will feature lunch, cocktails, and door prizes. Proceeds will be used to fund all of the various Pal-O-Mine programs that help the disabled and disadvantaged throughout the year.
Centerspan is proud to be a sponsor of this year’s Pal-O-Mine program at Belmont, and the Day at the Races Fundraiser event. Empowering people, families, and communities through improved access and ability is a shared mission of both organizations. We at Centerspan are honored to be a part of such a wonderful group that truly makes an incredible difference in people’s lives.
