Centerspan is proud to announce that our Director of Sales, Tyler Davis, and our Director of Business Development, Joseph Gray, have both completed the training and necessary requirements; and have been officially issued their professional designation of Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS).

caps-centerspanCAPS is a program offered through the National Home Builders Association (NAHB), and seeks to educate and inform about the use of proper resources, design, and procedures that make aging in place comfortably and effectively possible. Each year, more and more aging Americans choose to stay in their homes as they age, and not be relocated to an assisted care facility or to move in with their children or other relatives.

CAPS certification is a program that qualifies professionals to identify any modifications or necessary resources that may be needed in order to achieve the goal of safe and comfortable aging in place. These modifications range from things such as widening doorways for the use of potential mobility devices, or lowering countertops for easier access; to installing accessibility equipment such as a stair lift to make the home’s stairs safe as the individual ages.

AARP encourages its members to seek CAPS certified professionals and businesses for services:

“A Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist understands the unique needs of the older adult population and is knowledgeable about, aging-in-place home modifications, common remodeling projects and solutions to common barriers.” (SOURCE)

This practical video by AARP identifies many issues in and around the home that most people do not think of when considering an aging-friendly home.
